Equine Therapy

All cases will be assessed as children may be eligible to participate in the only non-profit equine therapy program in SMA with our partners at www.equinosma.org

  • Equine-assisted therapy for children and adults with diverse abilities involves therapeutic activities with a trained horse, guided by a therapist. This unique therapy leverages the special bond between humans and horses to promote physical, emotional, and cognitive development.

    Key benefits include:

    1. Physical Gains: Riding horses can enhance balance, coordination, and muscle strength.

    2. Emotional and Behavioral Growth: Interacting with horses helps children boost self-esteem, build confidence, and improve emotional regulation.

    3. Social Skills: Working with horses often involves teamwork and communication, which fosters better social skills.

    4. Cognitive Development: Following instructions, solving problems, and learning to care for horses can enhance cognitive abilities.

Each session is customized to suit the patient's unique needs, offering a flexible and supportive therapeutic experience.

  • You’ll find a welcoming environment where healing primarily takes place while riding a trained horse. Most sessions involve activities on horseback, such as guided exercises that improve balance, coordination, and muscle strength, along with physical therapy movements but also you can find yourself grooming and feeding the horse.

As you ride, you'll build trust, boost confidence, and develop skills like problem-solving, empathy, and social interaction—all while forming a unique connection with the horse that fosters emotional and mental growth.

  • After an equine therapy session, you may feel calm, relaxed, and more connected to yourself and others. The experience often brings a sense of empowerment, confidence, and trust, along with reduced stress and anxiety. Participants also frequently feel more physically flexible, with an increased range of movement and a greater sense of being grounded in their bodies
